I am a huge fan of Wisconsin cheese and it is a perfect addition to your table any day of the year. I particularly love the aged cheddar cheeses from the state of Wisconsin. The aged cheeses from Wisconsin are THE BEST and by far my most favorite cheeses to have with wine.

Four Cheese Blocks

Recently my husband went to Wisconsin for a fall weekend musky fishing trip. He stopped to buy four blocks of cheese in a cheese Retail Store and Bistro in Burnett Dairy in Grantsburg, WI. The four he purchased included:

  • Burnett Dairy Caveman 14 year cheddar cheese
  • Wood River Creamery Alpha’s Morning Sun Cheese Applewood Smoked Sea Salt
  • Burnett Dairy Alpha’s 5 year Limited Select white cheddar cheese
  • Fancy Brand Baby Swiss Cheese

This was such a wonderful surprise from my husband. What a great idea for a husband to buy this special tasty gift for his wife (hint for spouses for a yummy holiday or anniversary gift). My favorite was the Burnett Dairy Alpha’s 5 year Limited Select aged white cheddar cheese. The flavor was so rich and satisfying. It was amazing with a glass of red wine. If you are a cheese lover, you must try aged cheddar cheese if you haven’t yet. Aged cheddar often has a crunch to it with crystals throughout. It is so delicious on it’s own as an appetizer with crackers or bread, or in a recipe like a simple fried egg sandwich. It’s also a perfect addition to a Christmas party.

Aged white cheddar cheese

I paired this cheese with my favorite Merlot for the wine, cut up yellow apple slices, and Triscuit crackers. This simple combination was just so amazingly delicious. Burnett Dairy

has a website to purchase their cheeses online if you are interested in tasting their fabulous cheese. This is a great option for gifts for the holiday season, or as a gift to yourself anytime of year.

Caveman 14 year cheddar cheese

I love to use the base of my stemmed wine glass as a cheese holder. I often do this when I am having cheese only with wine. It’s a perfect little plate for a small morsel of cheese. It holds my cheese while I’m drinking wine while I prepare other foods or meals. I love to enjoy a glass of wine while cooking. An excellent past time!

Another on my list of favorites is the Burnett Dairy Caveman 14 year cheddar cheese. This cheese is perfect all on its own or with crackers. The orange color is gorgeous. There was a bit of crunch from the crystals in this cheese which is characteristic aged cheddar. I would buy this one again for sure.

Wood River Creamery Alpha’s Morning Sun cheese

The Wood River Creamery Alpha’s Morning Sun cheese Applewood smoked sea salt was extra tasty with a creamy texture and strong delicious smoked flavor. I enjoyed this cheese very much and my husband picked it because he sampled it in the store and loved it. I look forward to trying other Wood River Creamery cheeses.

Baby Swiss cheese

The Francy brand baby Swiss cheese was also very tasty. This was not an aged Swiss, but it was very good and we ate it on crackers and sandwiches. An interesting aspect of aged Swiss is it can cry. An aged Swiss cheese cries which means moisture comes out when it is sliced. We have purchased aged Swiss cheese from Wisconsin and it is also amazing. I’m not a huge fan of Swiss, however I like it in small quantities and I did really enjoy this block. Swiss cheese is one of my husband’s favorite types of cheese so I’m not surprised he picked it.

Wisconsin, The Cheeseheads

This special treat of delicious cheeses will add an unparalleled goodness to your holiday or weekend spread. Wisconsin is called the state of the cheeseheads for a reason; they know cheese. They get cheese. Wisconsin cheese people are master cheese makers. They make my favorite cheeses. I am a wine and cheese kind of person. I could have cheese, bread, and wine be my whole meal. I often have it as appetizer, but I love it so much I could make a meal of it.

Whenever we venture into Wisconsin, we buy cheese. If you aren’t near Wisconsin, check out their website to order cheese to be delivered to you. Below is the link to Burnett Dairy where my husband bought those four tasty cheese blocks I mention in this post. There are many different types and flavors of cheeses to choose from.

I thoroughly enjoyed trying these four blocks of cheese. It was such a nice surprise that he brought me home some cheese! Looking forward to trying more of their cheeses, perfect for the holidays or any time of the year. http://www.burnettdairy.com/
