Does your child need a boost of help for math? Thinkster Math is your solution. It provides students with extra math practice outside of school, many tutorial teaching videos, and personalized instruction done right at home online for K-8th grade.

I recently was given the opportunity to try out the Website Thinkster Math for my son. We were given free access to the membership in exchange for my own 100% honest review. I did enjoy several aspects of the website and I’m going to share my thoughts with you about our experience with Thinkster Math. I do recommend this website for families looking for extra help with math for their kids.

This website contains affiliate links. If you were to purchase through the links, I would recieve an advertising commission at no added cost to you. This helps me run my website. Please see my disclaimer in the top menu bar for details.

Reasons Why I Like the Math Help Website Thinkster Math:

Here are my six reasons why I like Thinkster Math as a parent.

1. Thinkster Gives Gives Detailed Progress Reports on Your Child’s Progress

I love how this program has the ability to provide targeted, specialized help for each child. I listed this one first because it’s my favorite reason why I like Thinkster Math. Each child is different with different learning needs and this website caters to that belief.

I’m so glad we tried out Thinkster because I was able to see my son’s math strengths as well as the areas he needs more work on. I was given a detailed progress report about my son’s  performance on the website. The report was broken down into eleven different categories. I found this information very valuable because it showed me what he needs more work on and what he knows well. This will help to guide any future instruction he receives.

2. We like the Short Digital Worksheets

My son likes the shortness of the digital worksheets. It’s summer so he gets bored and antsy. He wants to head out the door to play with friends so he needs something short to do because it feels more doable to him. He enjoys being able to do just one or two short worksheets in one sitting, or more if he feels he can handle it. My son thinks this math program is more doable than others we have tried because he can finish one in less than ten minutes so it makes doing the work easier which results in less of a fight with him over doing it. As a mom, that’s a win-win!

3. The Teaching Videos are Awesome!

One of my other favorite parts of the website is the tutorial videos. The videos help not only my son, but serve as a much needed refresher for me when my son asks for help (I need this because it’s been a long while since I took a math class;). The videos talk through a problem and illustrate how to solve it. The nice part is it can be replayed again and again because it’s a video. So if my son doesn’t understand something, he can watch it again. For my son, often listening to someone other than me explain something goes over better than when I explain something to him.

4. It’s Personalized to Each Child on an Ongoing Basis by a Coach

I like how the Thinkster Math online membership gives each child a personal coach who is also a teacher to talk with on the phone. The coach works one-on-one with the child plus it is awesome to talk to a real person on the phone (not an automated line). The coach talks with the family and takes time to learn about the child. Your child’s coach will help personalize the learning to your child’s needs by assessing their daily progress on the worksheets.

5. Extras are included

Thinkster offers three different levels of instruction and involvement. Many kids will benefit from the levels of membership that offer extras like homework help and test prep. This is helpful for the child who works and learns better with a person who is not their parent, but who is a trained teacher.

Kids will enjoy the rewards earned and points earned aspect of the online program. Many kids find this type of extra reward an incentive to keep trying and working on their own learning. There is also a leader board which shows medals for progress.

6. Thinkster Can Be Done At Home at Each Child’s Own Pace

I love how thinkster is help at home rather than having to drive to a tutor center. We are busy so the help at home is a huge bonus. It can be done at each child’s own leisure on their own timeline at home. The flexibility of being online is a huge plus in obtaining help for kids on their own schedule when they can decide what time of day they will work on it. I find my kids do better and are more cooperative when I accept their input for the timing of the schedule.

Since Thinkster is done at home, each child can work on it at their own pace. I find this is a valuable aspect with my son who often has some anxiety about finishing something in the highly scheduled time contraints of school.

How It Works

This is how it works. Users can choose from three levels of membership. The level chosen determines the extent of contact with the coach plus the amount and kind of help the coach provides. Each child takes an initial assessment so the coach can assess their needs which is then customized to each child’s needs, strengths, and abilities. The coach assesses the child’s progress each day by looking at their completed worksheets. The new worksheets added in by the coach are based on the student’s current needs. Kids can log on whenever their schedule allows because the schedule is self-chosen which is the beauty of it being online. Kids can choose from the menu of videos for extra help when needed. Children can do Thinkster Math on a computer, laptop, or tablet because there is an app.

Families can review the levels offered on the website and choose which one fits their own child’s needs.
