Pizza is an absolute favorite meal at our house. All five of us love pizza. We could eat it multiple times a week we love it so much. My family loves frozen pizza, fresh pizza, and homemade pizza. I’ve created a recipe for a pizza dough that makes a yummy soft crust. This recipe is an Easy and Quick Homemade Pizza Dough with Bread Crumbs. It calls for yeast and bread crumbs in addition to flour, plus it’s super easy and super quick.
My family is busy with three boys in multiple activities so I’m always searching for and creating easy recipes. I often need something quick and easy that we also enjoy. This pizza dough recipe is nice too because I can have the ingredients on hand for when I need a last-minute quick meal, aside from any addition of vegetables, the ingredients will last for awhile before they go bad. This makes it a great backup meal idea when I have nothing else planned.
I’m definitely a pizza fanatic. I seriously think I could eat pizza everyday. Being a vegetarian, pizza is a great meal because it is so versatile in that any veggies can be added, different types of cheese used for protein, and many types of sauces too. My kids don’t vary much from their cheese pizza, but I give them pizza a lot for meals because they can get carbs, tomato sauce, and protein from the cheese all in a dish they love.
Sometimes I will use the premade packets for homemade pizza, but this recipe is almost as easy so I love to make this pizza dough.

Ingredients for my Easy and Quick Homemade Pizza Dough with Bread Crumbs
These are easy common ingredients you will use to make this dough. Then you will be able to top it with any type of sauce, cheeses, or toppings as desired. Make it meaty or make it vegetarian because you get to customize it and decide how to top it.
Ingredients:
- warm water
- active dry yeast or rapidrise fast-acting instant yeast
- sugar
- white flour
- Italian Style bread crumbs
- olive oil
- coconut oil
These are such easy to store products that sit in your pantry for an extended amount of time. Store a jar of premade pizza sauce in your pantry and an unopened bag of shredded mozzarella cheese (and pepperoni if desired) so that you are ready to make a pizza even as a last-minute meal option.
I love this recipe too because it doesn’t have any artificial preservatives (as long as you use bread crumbs without artificial preservatives that is). I’ve been know to make my own fresh bread crumbs too by simply rubbing bread slices between your hands to crumble them up. However, if you did this, you would have to add your own Italian seasonings unless the bread already had them.
That gives me a fun idea to try all different types of bread in this recipe. Each bread would give a different flavor to the crust. I’ll have to add that to my list of things to try;)
More on Ingredients……
The Sauce
It’s super fun to me (seriously, it really is!) to try out different recipes. Flavors just bust out of food when you mix different and unusual ingredients together. I just created a recipe that will go in my ecookbook using squash in pizza sauce. It’s so delish! When I use a premade sauce, I like to use Ragu™ pizza sauce.

Try out this new squash sauce I just developed to go over pasta, it’s so tasty! Homemade Tomato Squash Pasta Sauce
The Crust
I have made this crust using white sugar and brown sugar and I didn’t notice a difference between the two. This crust can be made thick by using a 9×13 inch pan. The pizza crust can also be made thinner as another option. Simply split the dough ball in half and spread over 2 large cookie sheets. Pat dough with your fingers across cookie sheets, patting and stretching it with your fingers until you have a thin layer covering the entire surface of the cookie sheet. Squeeze together the dough where any holes appear and continue to pat dough flat with fingers to get a confluent layer of dough.
For the thicker pizza crust in the 9×13 inch pan, cook 27-33 minutes, however, if you are making the crust thinner across 2 cookie sheets, cook it for 15-18 minutes.
The Cheese
Use any shredded cheese you like to use. I’ve used shredded mozzarella cheese and Parmesan cheese as well as mozzarella with Asiago or an Italian blend of cheeses. All are yummy!
The Toppings
You get to decide:) Leave your toppings at cheese, or add veggies or meat. Pizza is the one of the easiest meals to make it a hybrid dish work for both vegetarians and meat-eaters.
I hope you enjoy this easy pizza dough recipe! I’d love to hear about it, drop me a comment:)

Easy and Quick Homemade Pizza Dough with Bread Crumbs
Ingredients
- 1 cup water warm
- 2 1/4 teaspoons yeast active dry yeast packet or rapid rise fast-acting instant yeast
- 1 Tablespoon sugar white or brown sugar
- 2 cups white flour
- 1/2 cup Bread Crumbs, Italian Style
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon coconut oil
Instructions
- Combine 1 c. warm water with 1 packet of yeast (about 2 1/4 tsp.) in a non-metal bowl. Stir with a wooden or plastic spoon to dissolve yeast in water. Don't make the water too hot, just warm. Read the directions on the yeast packet for more info.
- Add 1 Tbsp. white or brown sugar to water and yeast. Stir.
- Add 2 c. white flour, 1/2 c. Italian bread crumbs, and 1/4 c. olive oil and stir together.
- Oil hands with 1 tsp. olive oil and knead the pizza dough until a ball forms. Let it sit in a warm covered location for about 12-15 minutes. At this point is where I usually cut any veggies to add and assemble my sauce, cheeses, and any other toppings.
- Spread dough in a 9x13 inch glass baking dish already greased with 1 tsp. coconut oil for a thick crust pizza. If making thin crust pizzas, grease 2 cookie sheets, split dough in half and spread into pans. Spread and pat out dough to make a full layer of dough across pan. Squeeze together any holes that appear in the dough with your fingers and continue to pat it to make it as even a layer as possible.
- Add pizza sauce, shredded cheeses, and toppings per your own choice.
- Cooking: for a thick crust in the 9x13 inch pan, cook for about 27-33 minutes on the bottom rack of the oven. For thin crust pizzas, cook on the bottom rack of the oven for about 15-18 minutes. Let cool and slice.
This is such a great idea, I bet it’s delicious. I need to cook more from scratch, sometimes it feels overwhelming or I don’t have all of the ingredients. I like how these ingredients can be kept for a while in the pantry, ready to use. Thank you for the inspiration.
I hope you like it! I love it for those reasons you mentioned plus it’s super easy. Thanks so much!!
Oh my goodness this is just HEAVENLY! Wow – this made me so hungry just reading about this recipe and looking at the images. I’ve always heard that pizza dough is temperamental and hard to master, so I love that this is easy and doable. I’m definitely saving this!

Thanks! It is so good! It’s a soft crust that is super yummy! Hope you enjoy it:)
Pizza is my favorite thing to cook with the kids. It is one food that their “help” can actually be help. You can’t really screw up putting toppings on, and they love to customize their own little pizzas.
That’s exactly right! It’s literally the perfect meal because it can be customized to each individual’s taste and yes, helpers are easily accommodated! I hope you and your family enjoy this recipe 🙂
