We have two guinea pigs at our house. This is Scotchy (aka full name is Butterscotch).
This is our other guinea pig Twix.
We love our guinea pigs very much! They are super cuddly guys each with their own personality. We love to give them the best beds and accesories we can, so we have tried out several beds to find the perfect one. And we did find the perfect bed:)
The Best Guinea Pig Bed Your Pet Will Love
I’m going to start my review by showing you the favorite bed. This bed is our favorite for several reasons.
- our pigs love the bed they choose it when they have a choice (most important reason!)
- we find our pigs love to sit in the bed
- our pigs love to sleep in the bed
- we enjoy seeing how our pigs love to hang out under the flipped over bed like a cave
- it works to keep them warm in their cages at night when we flip it upside down
- it is washable in the washing machine (delicate cycle)
- we can write their names on them with a permanent marker so they have their own
- they are mobile and we can easily take them out of the cage to use them around the house
- it has a clip to keep the bed in one spot and to keep it slightly up so they can easily slip under it
- the bed material is soft
Our Pigs Love the Beds to Sit In and Sleep In
This is the most important reason we like this bed because our pigs feel comfortable in these beds. In fact, they choose these beds when they have a choice. IF we have several beds lined up, this is the one they pick. This like to sit in these beds and sleep in them.
Our Pigs Love To Hang Out Under the Beds
Guinea pigs naturally love to go under a cover. We figured that out almost immediately upon adopting our pigs. One day, while our pigs were hanging out on the couch with us, we flipped the bed over to make a cave and it was an instant hit! Our guinea pigs now will hang out under the flipped over beds for hours. They feel so safe and comfortable under the beds that we flip them over more than keeping them upright.
This Bed Keeps Our Guinea Pig Warm at Night
We keep our guinea pig cages in two of my son’s rooms. One room gets very cold at night and we noticed in the morning that Scotchy’s ears were cold. We were worried he was getting cold at night.
In his cage, we had a plastic cave for him to go under, which he loved, but it didn’t keep him warm being made of plastic. As an experiment, we took his bed and put it in his cage upside down with it clipped to the side so it wouldn’t shift around. (Clipping it also makes it easier for him to slip under it so it’s easier for him to use.) We found this worked very well, almost like a blanket because his ears were no longer cold in the mornings:)

This Guinea Pig Bed is Machine Washable
Though the guinea pigs loving this bed in the most important reason I like this bed, the fact that it is machine washable vies for my top reason why I love this bed. It makes my life as mom easier because I don’t have to hand wash this bed, when our guinea pigs pee on it or it gets food on it, I can easily pop it in the washing machine on the gentle cycle. I simply pull it out and let it air dry.
Perfect and easy, just what this busy mama loves!
These beds are durable and can handle multiple washings too. I’ve washed ours 2-3 times a week on the gentle cycle and they have held up well. The stitching has stayed in its original state so I believe this is a quality product. After over a year of multiple washings, it is still in excellent shape.
We Can Personalize the Bed By Writing Their Names on it
I love how we can personalize the beds by writing each pig’s name on the outside of the bed with a permanent marker. My kids think this is fun to designate a bed for each pig. This way, they each have their own bed that is just theirs. I do have to refresh the name every 4 months or so because it does wash off with multiple washings, but that’s so easy to fix. Kids could even decorate the beds as a fun rainy day activity. Give them a bunch of markers and they let decorate it:)
These Beds are Easily Mobile
I love these beds because they are easily mobile. Since these beds are floppy, we can easily take them in and out of the cages through the cage door. If we wanted to take the plastic cave out of the cages, we would have to take the cage top off (which means more work!), but since these beds are fabric, they can be easily folded and taken out of the cages. It has a simple clip, so it is super easy to unclip the bed and take it with us.
This easily mobile feature works perfect for us because we can take the beds to the living room or anywhere in the house. Oftentimes, we will put the pigs and their cages on the couch to be out of their cages more. We love this so they can hang out with us all the time!

But, when we have the pigs on the couch and the beds are present, 99% of the time they are in the bed, or under it:)
These Beds Work Great for in the Cages Also Because of the Clip
I love the clip on these beds. When we put the guinea pigs away for the night, we put the beds back in their cages (very easily!!) and clip it to the cage wall. This is great because as our pigs try to slip under it, the bed stays put. If we didn’t clip it, they might move the bed all over the cage and block their food, water, or put it into the spot where they go to the bathroom.
The Bed is Super Soft
When we first got the beds, the insides were super soft and cuddly. Our pigs loved this! However, after several washings, they lost their softness, but our pigs don’t care one bit. So, I think the softness mattered to us more than the pigs! I can’t really call this a drawback because our piggies still love these beds even though the inside has lost the initial softness.

My Only Drawback to This Guinea Pig Bed
I only have one real drawback to this bed. It is not fully waterproof so pee leaks through it to the surface below when they sit in it and urinate. For this reason, we add towels or pad underneath to prevent urine leakage to the couch or carpet underneath. This would be the only improvement I could see that the manufacturers could improve on.
However, all the positives outweigh this negative. Plus, there are fixes for this negative by adding towels or waterproof mattress pads underneath or puppy pads like the ones below. You can purchase dispoable pads (like under the doggie below) or washable (like under the child below). Our washable pad is different than the one under the child, but it is very similar. There are many different one to choose from online. Search for one that fits your price range.

2nd Choice for a Guinea Pig Bed
This is our second choice for a guinea pig bed pictured below. Our pigs love to hang out in and sleep/lounge in this bed tent too, but it is too big for the cages, so this one isn’t our first choice. The little pad is washable and I have wiped down the tent with a wet cloth to clean it. So, this tent is a good addition to our guinea pig accesories, but not our first pick for warmth or for in the cage. Plus, it’s a little harder to clean.
