This is a list of fifteen travel games for travel to make the road trip more fun. I love these great boredom busters, let’s face it, road trips can get long and unbearable. I love having options in the car for kids to do that are not on a screen. Movies and games with a screen are fine, but not for the whole entire road trip. Mix it up and have multiple choices for kids and adults to help pass the time on short and on cross country road trips. Check these out, they are so much fun:)

Pass the Pig

This is a fun game that kids will adore, and adults too. The pigs are shaken in the container and how they land determines how many points you get for your turn. They are cute little rubber pigs.

My boys adore this game! I know your kids will love it too!

The positions the pigs land in all have specific names such as leaning jowler, snouter, razorback, pig out, oinker, and trotter.  Keep the directions because there are pictures to show what each orientation is worth in points. It’s all about the shake, and let the pigs land, get your score and pass the container with the pigs to the next player, they shake and get their points. The first person to 100 wins. But watch out! You can lose your points or get kicked out of the game.

Pigs could be poured into a pan on the car ride as an alternative to using the container, but we like to use the little container it came with. This one is fun to play at home too.

Scavenger Hunt For Kids A Travel Card Game

This is a great game for searching around the car and outside the car. It utilizes several special cards also to hear, smell, and feel cards. This is a fun game of noticing things in your environment both inside and outside of the vehicle. Some examples of what players must find include a man with a mustache, a hotel, a yellow car, a dirty car, a dog in a car, a person wearing sunglasses or glasses,  and a license plate with a number “1”. There are also easy things like a restaurant, a stop sign, and a van.

The first player to discard ten cards wins. Easy peasy! And perfect:)

Eye Found It Card Game

This is a fun finding game where players search for items on a card they hold. Each player holds their own card to search on so it works great as a game for while in the car. The first player to get rid of their stack of cards wins.

We love this game:) It’s great for fans of I Spy books and games and finding books. (like my house!)

The scenes reflect scenes from history.

As a bonus, all the cards can be combined as a puzzle to create seven different historic scenes. This would need to be done at home on a large flat surface.

I love this game because it’s a great boredom buster for kids while traveling. My kids love find it games, so this one is ideal for my family.

The Wonder Forge Journey Through Time Eye Found It! Card Game

Mini Magnetic Games

These little board games are great. The little game pieces have magnets in them so they stick to the board, which is fantastic for the car because the game pieces stay in place, even for car turns. The game pieces are  small as are the boards making them great for kids to play in the car. I can easily play these as an adult as well, even with the small pieces.

We love that there is also a solo game in this pack (Solitaire) so if only one person wants to play a game, they can play that one on their own.

I would suggest using a pan or plastic container with raised sides to hold these games so game pieces and dice aren’t accidentally tossed to the floor and lost.

There are so many game options in this pack, this set will keep kids and adults occupied for many hours making the road trip more bearable for both the kids and the parents. Make being on the road fun!

Tips to Play Travel Games in a Vehicle

I have a mom hack to share for a makeshift table. If your vehicle does not have a built in fold down table, use a  folding stool for a table in between Captain’s chairs in your vehicle. Add a pan that fits on the chair also. The great thing about it is how it can be folded and easily stored in the vehicle. These types of folding stools can be found in sportman’s stores in the hunting/fishing sections of the store. Get one for your car and your kids can enjoy a surface to play games one:)

I suggest you also  pack a pan with high sides or a plastic container to keep dice and game pieces and cards from falling and getting lost on the floor or under the car seats.

Find a plastic storage bin that will fit all the games with high sides for easy storage of the games. Find one with handles for easy in and easy out when packing up the car for a road trip. This makes it easy to grab when heading out the door on a trip if the games are already together in a bin.

Remember to bring a writing utensil for the Pass the Pig game too so you  can keep track of all game players scores.

Enjoy your trip! I hope you and your family have fun on the road using these games, my best travel games for the road!
