Have you tried making your own sugar scrub at home? It’s absolutely amazing. I created a natural body scrub recipe I named Sugar Orange Burst and it’s so refreshing. This simple DIY recipe uses natural food products and essential oils. This recipe will leave your skin feeling so very soft and refreshed. It smells absolutely phenomenal when you scrub it on your skin. The orange aroma bursts out at you while you scrub and the sugar makes this scrub feel very good on the skin. It’s a luxurious simple addition you can give yourself at home to your self-care using simple natural non-toxic ingredients. Easy peasy and fun too.

This easy DIY skin scrub recipe will improve your showering or bathing experience. It’s so lovely to smell the orange scent and the sugar rubbed onto the skin feels luxurious. It’s stellar!

I just love how soft my skin is after using this scrub. My family agrees, they love this recipe too. It’s fast to make and contains only natural ingredients.

First of All, Why make a Natural Body Scrub?

First and foremost, it’s natural. If you make a DIY scrub using the right pure ingredients, you have a non-toxic skincare product that is healthier for your skin.

Second, it’s a luxurious way to accomplish easy simple self-care time at home.

Third, it feels amazing to scrub this on your skin so you get to feel good using it.

Fourth, it smells amazing so you get the pleasure of the pleasant orange aroma as you use it.

Fifth, it makes your skin so very soft because it exfoliates the skin so effectively with the grainy-textured sugar in it.

Sixth, it makes a great homemade gift.

Lastly, your skin can benefit from the effects of the essential oils (see below for more information).

The 6 Ingredients Needed to Make this Natural Body Scrub: Sugar Orange Burst

There are only six ingredients needed to make this recipe, a bowl, measuring cups/spoons, and a spoon/fork to stir. You can leave the scrub open in a bowl for convenient use, but a sealed container or one with a lid works best. I like glass or pottery because it’s more natural, but even plastic works just fine.

Here’s what you need for this sugar orange burst natural body scrub:

  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 tsp. jojoba oil
  • 2 Tbsp orange juice (I use pulp-free)
  • 9 drops mandarin essential oil
  • 10 drops orange essential oil
  • 1 Tbsp. fractionated coconut oil (liquid)

Directions:

  1. Combine sugar and orange juice in a bowl and mash it to thoroughly moisten the sugar (a fork works great).
  2. Combine the jojoba oil, liquid coconut oil, and mandarin and orange essential oils together and stir.
  3. Next, combine the sugar mixture with the oil mixture and stir well.
  4. Store in a sealed container for best results.

I have used vegetable oil as well or olive oil if I didn’t have any coconut oil on hand. You will need to purchase essential oils and jojoba oil to make this recipe. Some stores sell oils, or look online, or join a service like I did (see below for more info). I found the jojoba oil at Target, but it’s also available on:

Certified Organic Jojoba Oil ; 100% Pure & Cold Pressed, Natural Moisturizer for Face and Hair and Great for all Skin DIYs (Polishes, Masks, Body), 4 oz

How to Make a Sugar Scrub

It’s pretty easy to make a sugar scrub, and it’s quite fast. Basically, you use a type of sugar, some sort of natural additive(s), a carrier oil, and essential oils (®Simply Earth).  Then stir t mix it, no heating of anything is necessary. Once thoroughly stirred, it’s ready to use. Cover it to maintain effectiveness and freshness.

Following that plan, I chose white sugar, orange juice, the orange juice, the jojoba oil, and mandarin and orange essential oils.

How to Get Essential Oils

I learned how to make a homemade natural body scrub using sugar from Simply Earth essential oil company. I joined them as an after doing a sponsored post with them last summer for Pure Essential Oils for Clear Skin (monthly box subscription service).

I’ve fallen in love with Simply Earth’s monthly subscription boxes. I get free recipes with each delivery of essential oils and other ingredients each month–which I love. They provide different themes each month so that is so much fun. Once you join, you get monthly themed boxes, ingredients, and recipes with tips delivered to your home. Then you can also purchase single items.

How to Use a Sugar Scrub

Well, using it is the easy and fun part. Simply scoop some out, scrub it on your skin with your hands and rinse. I tend to use a spoon to scoop some out so I don’t add water to it by dipping my wet fingers in. It’s also great to leave by the sink to scrub your hands with, however, I’d still use soap to clean your hands.

The white sugar is more course so take care not to scrub too hard until you know your skin can handle scrubbing. I like to apply it to moist skin, scrub it on, then enter the water stream or dip into the bath. The exfoliating nature of the scrub leaves your skin very, very soft.

I have also sparingly used this scrub on my face.

What are Orange and Mandarin Essential Oils known for?

The orange essential oil is known for being a relaxant, for circulatory stimulation, wrinkles/oil, and others including possible antitumor properties.

The mandarin essential oil is known for helping with anxiety, digestion, possible antitumor properties, and it’s an antifungal. It can also help combat oily skin, scars, and acne to list a few.

Both essential oils smell awesome too.
