Craft gifts are a great way to have fun plus an ideal way to relieve stress and anxiety. They help both kids and their parents/adults slow down and take time to be in the moment with each other. Each time I’ve worked with my kids on projects has created a special memory and with those memories come the remembering of good feelings. Give your kids and yourself a good feeling gift to last a lifetime by choosing to give art gifts for kids.
Art Gifts for Kids and Adults too!
The following are ideas for kids, and adults too! These ideas will work better for older children rather than younger children due to the manual dexterity and concentration level needed to complete the tasks. These are great ideas for gifts for adults too, and a perfect idea for a family gift. Giving a gift of an experience that ends with the creation of something together is one of the best and most memorable gifts that can be given!
Painting/Paint by Number Kit
I was gifted a paint by number kit from Craft-Ease. I chose the mom and baby elephant. It’s a beautiful picture. We’ve been working on it as a family for about a month and a half. Obviously, you can go much faster on it than we are, but we’ve enjoyed taking our time and painting when we have had the time and felt like doing it. We’ve turned our project into a family one. Sometimes a few of us paint at the same time, other times someone may paint alone for a few minutes. The point is we are creating it together and will frame it and hang it up in our house once it’s done. This will be a reminder of good times and quality time spent together. It will be a constant reminder on the wall making us smile and warming our hearts.
The thing I like about this project is there are so many areas to paint. They are all small and the numbered sections are scattered throughout the picture so it forces us to slow down and take our time. This also allows for a project we can create over time, making it more meaningful because we will have more moments to think back on and cherish. It’s a very soothing activity that can be easily stopped and restarted without much effort for setup and cleanup. We’ve been keeping ours on a table with all the little paint tubs out and the brushes next to them so we can just simply sit down and paint at a moment’s notice.
Craft-Ease has many pictures to choose from on its website. Check out their paint by number kits today and buy one for a gift for the artist in your family! It’s really a great activity for older kids and adults alike. I liken it to working on a puzzle, a project that takes time, patience, and concentration but can be very satisfying as the picture completion progresses.
Plaster
Have your child mold their hands! A fun activity to do when they are small and then repeat when they are a teenager. This plaster kit makes a beautiful and memorable decoration that any parent or grandparent would cherish. Or have your child make it for their own room, a perfect statue to cherish and display on their bedroom dresser.
Wearable Crafts
My boys really have gotten into the Rainbow Loom bracelet making at the late elementary and/or middle-grade ages. They loved creating all the color combinations. Being a boy mom, this is the closest my boys ever got to making something to wear. I’m sure girls love this activity as well as jewelry making, but as an all boy mom, this is as close to that kind of thing that I got. I really have enjoyed it! I even learned how to do it myself! We’ve bought band refills just to get certain colors as well. It’s a great pass time that kids can feel proud of. They can also make some for gifts for others!
Paper Airplane Kits
Paper airplane kits have been a hit with all three of my boys. They can’t get enough of making something and then throwing it into the air. They’ve loved seeing how the different shapes soar around and land. Some soar high and long floating about before descending, others dive bomb to the ground, and others have short bursts before gravity grips them. So much fun can be had with paper airplane kits! They are also very small so the kit doesn’t take up much room. The cool thing is once the kids have used up all the paper, the local craft store has more! They can get really creative with different designs on the paper, but also, plain old white paper works too. They can decorate the paper with drawings before they fold as another creative idea. Great options lie within this type of craft gift kit!
Stepping Stone
Create a stepping stone! This makes a great gift for kids or adults. Creativity can be sparked by starting with a kit like the ones shown below. The sky is the limit to what you can imbed into these keepsake stepping stones. They will add beauty and a personal touch to your home and/or garden. What a beautiful way to capture the age of a child as well! My oldest son made one for my husband for Father’s Day about ten years ago. It’s such a fun memory to look at it and see his picture embedded in it. A great piece to be kept for a lifetime!
Great for kids and adults!
Kids and/or adults could make a stone for their own home or as a holiday gift for grandparents or other family members. Teens could make one for a boyfriend or girlfriend. The potential for creative expression is huge here. Ideas for items to embed in the concrete include shells from a vacation, plastic jewels, Legos in the shape of a design, coins, a toy, fingerprints, toe prints, handprints, rocks, or any items that could stand the test of being left outside without degrading.
