Do you have a guinea pig? We do! Her name is Maggie! We call her Magoo for a nickname. Sometimes she’s Maggie Magoo! Pronounced Mah-goo. She’s a sweet pig who loves to run around and adores her fruits and veggies every day. I’m introducing you to a care product that will improve your pig’s cage and help you save money. It’s a guinea pig bedding pad that is washable, absorbent, leak-proof, and comfortable. We’ve tried other ones, but LuftPets is our favorite!

Best Guinea Pig Bedding Cage Pad
This guinea pig cage pad’s top surface is a breathable soft mesh. Urine can soak in but doesn’t leak through because it’s leak proof. This is a soft and comfy material for a guinea pig to stand on. It’s a nice thick material as well with five layers. It’s healthy for a guinea pig’s feet and safe being it’s non-toxic.
We’ve tried other cage floor solutions, but there’s always been something lacking. Some of the other things we’ve tried include wood shavings litter, paper shreds litter, puppy whelping pads, human bedwetting pads, and other guinea pig cage pads but this LuftPets pad is by far the best one we’ve tried. We are very happy with it and highly recommend it.

Why is it the BEST Guinea Pig Bedding?
It has many desirable attributes that make it the best guinea pig bedding including:
- It’s absorbant.
- There are five layers in this thick pad.
- It’s leak proof.
- It’s also waterproof, but urine soaks in.
- The bottom of the pad is anti-slip so it won’t migrate around much. We have not seen it drift at all while using it in the cage.
- It’s made of a breathable material, so it doesn’t get sopping wet. This pad makes it a way better habitat than having their feet standing on a wet pad.
- It’s a soft and comfortable surface for a guinea pig to live on.
- The washable aspect is great because it is cheaper in the long run because you aren’t buying throwable litter. This also makes it better for the environment because there is less waste produced.
- It’s a good size and fits our homemade cage well.
- I feel confident in using it on the furniture so when Maggie is on the couch with us, we can put down this pad to protect the couch from urine if she pees.
- It comes as a two-pack so while one is being used, we have time to wash the used pad.
- It’s easy to clean because my son just rolls up the pads carefully to keep all the poops inside and he dumps it outside. Then I put it in the washing machine, and let it air dry.
- The dark color is ideal for not showing urine spots.
- It controls odors.
Why other options have not been ideal, and why LuftPets is the best cage bedding
The paper litter or wood shavings are expensive. I was always having to buy more litter. It got tiresome and expensive. It also created more garbage because the entire cage bottom had to be covered in litter each week, then was just throw away after use. The smell of urine often filled the room too, which is a huge downside. With the LuftsPets pad, we don’t notice any odor in the room, even when it’s soiled. This makes it better for the pet and better for the humans!
The other guinea pig pads we’ve tried were thinner and didn’t hold the urine well. With this pad, it’s like the urine disappears.
The human bed pad and puppy whelping pads would show the urine spots, and with the white human pad, it was hard to get the stains out. I’d have to spray it heavily with laundry spot remover and they’d often still show a stain mark even after being washed.
Maggie’s Cage
This image below is Maggie’s cage set up with the LuftPets cage liner in place. My son made her cage out of the shelving unit wire panels and small zip ties to connect them together. We got the wire shelving panels on Amazon (scroll down for links). He also put a layer of the wire panels on the bottom to stabilize the walls. It’s very breathable and not closed in like glass or wood walls. This worked great too because he could customize the size somewhat to fit the open space in his bedroom.

How to Create a Cage that Meets Your Guinea Pig’s Needs
Guinea pigs like things they can hide under, hang out beneath, and feel covered up with. My son added several different types of shelter structures to make Maggie feel comfortable and safe in her cage including tunnels, guinea pig houses, a hammock, and little fleece blankets.
The other trick we do is we bought a small dog bed from Walmart and flip it over so she can hide under it like a warm cave. It’s also warm because the bed is padded, which is important because he runs the ceiling fan at night when he sleeps. This dog bed idea works great too because we can wash the bed on the gentle cycle when needed. We usually find her hanging out under the dog bed so it’s her top fave place to hang out in her cage!
A small fleece blanket over half of the cage also helps keep Maggie warm and covered.
Guinea pigs need constant access to timothy hay. We also have a hay tower, hay rack for the side of the cage, and we place hay on the floor of her cage as well.
