We are a hybrid family with a vegetarian and meat eaters, therefore making quick meals that are tasty is a challenge. Some evenings we are so busy with our three boys' activities that we have just minutes to prepare and eat a meal before we are out the door.Though there are a few frozen food companies who make vegetarian meals, most frozen food companies only make meals that contain meat. Fresh is always better tasting so over the years I have come up with a few fast meals that can be meatless ... Continue Reading...
My Most Brutal Wonderful Mother’s Day
My kids signed three Mother’s Day cards to mail to their Grandma’s, and one of them said, “But we have four Grandma’s” and bless his heart, I knew I was keeping my Mother’s memory alive for him even though she passed away years before he was born. My Mom is not forgotten even by him who never met her; this brought tears to my eyes. My worst Mother’s Day was the first one without my Mom. Watching others buy Mother’s Day cards and seeing ads selling silver heart necklaces and perfume cuts you ... Continue Reading...
My Thank You Letter to Prince
Tribute to Prince I want to thank you Prince for all you’ve done for me. I know everyone is writing about you, but I don’t feel like it makes my tribute any less important because you deserve all the tributes people write about you. You deserve to hear from each person you made cry or love with your lyrics, each person you made dance hearing your songs helping us delight in the beauty of life, each person honored to see you in concert. I wish we had all written to you a few days ago while you ... Continue Reading...
Broken Wrist and Surgery Fear
It’s the beginning scene, just picture it: tall bar stool, mini trampoline, air mattress, and a six-year old boy. Enter action sequence: boy crawls to top of tall bar stool, stands on bar stool ready to jump, and leans just a little bit too far to one side and loses his balance. Ending scene: first ominous silence, six-year-old boy on floor, a shattering cry rips through the air, and his crooked arm on the carpet. That was the movie we saw. We were supposed to be finishing “The Empire ... Continue Reading...
Meal Time Rush in the The Parenting Life; Should Have Made Spaghetti
Most evenings we have a full schedule of activities and sports, so sometimes I opt for quick individual meals for dinner. However, oftentimes this opting for easy quick individual meals backfires on me and I wish I had just made a pot of something they all like, such as spaghetti. Join me on my journey of a humorous recount of a crazy evening I should have just made spaghetti. A Parent's Life… There is a short lull in between when the kids come home from school and the evening schedule crunch ... Continue Reading...
Serving as a Christian to a Stranger in Need
A few years back I stumbled upon a situation where I served as a Christian to a stranger in need. My young son witnessed and even participated in assisting this person. I believe God used me to help this woman. It was an ordinary day to start out with. Two moms and their kids had just arrived at my house for a play date when my son’s school called because he didn’t feel well and I needed to come get him. My friends graciously said they could stay home with my other two boys so I could easily ... Continue Reading...
Paying Homage to the Kindergarten Teacher
This was originally published on Her View From Home. http://herviewfromhome.com/paying-homage-to-the-kindergarten-teacher/ My youngest is now in kindergarten and I am finally able to volunteer in the classroom. I am amazed how the teacher commands the room. Here is what I heard, and learned, while volunteering in my son’s kindergarten classroom: “But pink is my favorite!” The kids have opinions about everything they want. They want a certain color paper. They want to sit on a ... Continue Reading...
Community Building at our Backyard Pool
Owning a pool in our backyard is a community blessing. It brings the neighborhood, friends, and family together to make memories and have fun. Having fun together is the ultimate bonding tool, especially when repeated. When it’s summertime, we have pool parties. The kids do flips into the water together. They dare each other to see who can swim underwater the furthest. They make up fun games. They play water football toss where they try to jump and catch it mid-air. It's good times. Of ... Continue Reading...
My Ramblings
I have a logo (coming soon to this website), which seems a strange thing to do for oneself, but I did it for my blog. I chose an infinity sign because I love to write and write and write, and to poke fun at myself, really I just can't seem to shut myself up. I just started this blog this week and I woke up this morning at 5 a.m. and I immediately began to think about what I wanted to add to it, what I wanted to write about, what I needed to check and add. I made myself rest in bed until 6 ... Continue Reading...
Teacher’s Gift from God at Work in our Lives
A Teacher's Gift From God at Work in Our Lives: How God uses our Hands to Do Good in the World and We Are So Blessed to Do His Good Work. Thank you, God! A Short Story of Peace, Love, and Christmas Spirit Lead by a Six-Year Old My kindergartner came home from school one day in December and announced that his teacher said she didn’t want a gift for Christmas. I told him I had already bought her a gift card to a restaurant, but he protested with wide six-year old eyes, telling me ... Continue Reading...
